Chief Mark Havener grew up in Hiram, a small town in northeast Ohio.  He completed his post-secondary education at Iowa State and the University of Cincinnati. Chief Havener has over fifteen years of fire service experience in both the volunteer and career sectors of fire fighting and rescue including paramedic certification in Ohio.

Six years ago, Chief Havener came to Washington when he was hired as the Deputy Chief of Training for Snohomish County Fire District 14 at Stanwood.  In February of 2004, he moved to Pend Oreille County after accepting the full-time position as Chief of Fire District No. 3.

Chief Havener is continuing his pursuit of additional education. He is currently enrolled in the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program and is scheduled to complete this certification program over a four-year period.

Chief Havener’s ongoing efforts in improving the fire service have included successfully completing numerous grants that enhances our ability to provide service to the county and the community.

Chief Havener and his wife Nancy both enjoy the outdoors and like living in a rural environment.
