» Public Education Initiative

The community that is protected by Pend Oreille County Fire District No. 3 is growing and diverse. The need for public education delivery to the community will be ever present.  Fire District No. 3 makes provisions for public education and risk reduction on the following levels.

• Risk Reduction Education Workshops

- Public Information Programs

- Fire Prevention Week

- EMS Week

•  Fire-wise Programs

•  Public Relations Events  

Under the direction of Chief Mark Havener, Fire District No. 3 program workshops are developed by the Public Education Team based on the following five-step plan.

• Identification of the most important local fire, burn and all other risk problems.

• Selection of the biggest risks that can be reduced by public effort.  This

includes the identification and selection of target audiences and high risk

groups.

• Program development designed to fit the audience and meet attainable

objectives.

• Implementation of the education program according to plan with the flexibility

to meet the changing needs of the community.

• Program evaluation for the purpose of continuous improvement. 

The public education effort is geared to all risk hazards in order to promote a safer community.

» Public Education Workshops Online  

Fire District No. 3 is now developing online workshops designed to provide basic fire prevention and life safety information through the Internet. Click on the computer icon at the right to view available programs, which include Chimney Fire Safety, Home Safety Inspection, Medical Emergency, and Wildfire Safety.

Online Workshops Available

	Chimney Fire Safety Workshop This workshop will provide you with information about the causes of a chimney fire, how to prevent a chimney fire, the rural fire department's response to a chimney fire, and what to do after a chimney fire.
	Wildfire Workshop This workshop will provide information on the steps you can take to protect your home and family from wildfires.  You will also learn about what you and your neighbors need to do to avoid causing or fueling a wildfire; how to survive an evacuation; and what to do when returning home after the fire.
	Medical Emergency Workshop This workshop will show you what to do in case of a medical emergency.  In addition, you will learn about family emergency preparedness, accident prevention, when and how to make a 911 call, and what they should do until help arrives.
	Home Safety Inspection Workshop This workshop will show  you how to conduct a home safety inspection that will help prevent fire or accidents in your home and throughout our property.

Pend Oreille County Fire District No. 3 has free information available at the Diamond Lake Station on disaster preparedness.  We are also available to come out and speak to your community group on preparedness topics.  If you have any questions or want to seek additional information you can contact Fire District No. 3 through the listings on our Contacts page.
