Currently the fleet of fire apparatus that serves the community averages nearly 19 years old.  Our fire engines that respond first to a fire are between 23 and 25 years old.

Fire District 3's Fire Engines need to be replaced in 1 to 5 years to allow us to be effective in our mission.  Fire Engines typically have a service life of 25 years.

The current Fire Engines no longer meet the recognized safety standards for protecting your volunteers who protect our community.

They do not have the same reliability they once had because of the many years of service that have given here and in other fire departments.

Our community will realize the following benefits from the approved Apparatus Replacement Plan

• Reliable response to the community

• Safer fire apparatus for volunteers

• Decreased maintenance costs

• Replacement of aging equipment in a timely manner

• Create funding stability for the future

Funding for the plan comes from a 30 cent levy.  This special levy is scheduled to last only 4 years, 2007 through 210.

All of the apparatus scheduled to be replaced in the Plan will be completed by 2010, and we will have a reserve in the fund to carry forward.

This funding will allow for the purchase of quality pre-owned apparatus that will serve the community for 10-15 years.

Fire District 3 has done its part by applying for grants to find this plan.  We ask you to consider funding this plan through the requested special one-time levy.
